Theology Department Theology Assistant

Requirements

The student assistant will use excellent oral and written communication skills, organizational skills, information literacy and computer skills to work on various projects in the Theology Department in the Belmont Abbey College community. The student assistant is responsible to the Chair of the Theology Department, who will direct and oversee assistance provided to full-time and adjunct Theology faculty.

 

The ideal candidate takes initiative, is able to follow oral and written directions, has a friendly and helpful attitude towards coworkers, is dependable, and can manage workflow on a few projects at once.  Moderate working knowledge of spreadsheet and word processing software, for example. Microsoft Word and Excel will be helpful.  The work environment is a general office setting with no physical demands more strenuous than filing books on shelves.

Work Schedule

The student assistant will make his or her own schedule at the beginning of the semester, averaging 5 to 10 hours per week. The supervisor is flexible according to class schedules.

Location

The student assistant will work primarily in the Theology Department.

Responsibilities

Specific duties include but are not limited to:

 

  • Carry out simple research projects for Theology faculty.
  • Reviewing and proofreading documents, including articles written by faculty
  • Assist with Theology Department events, e.g., public lectures, recruitment events
  • Research and maintain data about departmental alumni
  • Research and organize data about potential careers for a Theology major
  • Photocopy and/or scan documents and texts
