History History Department Office Assistant
Requirements
The Office Assistant will use excellent oral and written communication skills, organizational skills, information literacy and computer skills to work on various projects in the History Department in the Belmont Abbey College community. The student assistant is responsible to the Chair of the History Department, who will direct and oversee assistance provided to full-time and adjunct History faculty. The ideal candidate takes initiative, is able to follow oral and written directions, has a friendly and helpful attitude towards coworkers, is dependable, and can manage workflow on a few projects at once. Moderate working knowledge of speadsheet and word processing software needed. Microsoft Word and Excel will be helpful. The work environment is a general office setting with no physical demands more strenuous than filing books on shelves.
Work Schedule
The History Department Office Assistant will make his/her own schedule at the beginning of each semester, averaging 4-10 hours per week, but no more than 137 hours per semester, while working within the office hours of the Director. The supervisor is flexible according to class schedules.
Location
The Office Assistant will work primarily in the vicinity of Stowe Hall 308.
Responsibilities
Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
- Assist in scanning, photocopying, and organizing paperwork and course materilas
- Assist with planning and implementing departmental events
- Assist in digitization of historic documents
- Provide additional assistance to the department chair and History Department faculty as needed
The successful candidate will have an exemplary work ethic and understand the big picture, while also not being afraid to roll up his/her sleeves to do the work that will support a community that nourishes the mind, body, and spirit of the whole student.
