Requirements

  • Conscientious enough to keep strict hours and get all work done on time.  (Essential)
  • Knowledgeable enough about philosophy to grade introductory work.  (Essential)
  • Familiar enough with the character of the Philosophy department to help with recruitment and planning special events. (Essential)
  • Articulate enough to write a beautiful Philosophy Department Newsletter.  (Essential)
  • Intelligent enough to research recruiting, medieval social epistemology, and fundraising.  (Desired)
  • Strong enough to carry a cooler of ice and drinks.  (Desired)
  • Can drive to Aldi to buy refreshments for events.  (Desired)

Work Environment

  • Required to carry food and a cooler of drinks (if possible).
  • Required to use a computer for writing and research and reading Google Docs.

Work Schedule

Various Weekdays  (M-F) 2 – 7hrs per week, depending on the week.

Responsibilities

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Grade reading assignments in Intro Philosophy  (40 hrs)
  • Buy food and drinks and get ice for a cooler and bring to Department events (Senior Thesis presentations, Philosophy Reception, Philosophy Club, Philosophy Colloquium, Philosophy Farewell)  (26 hrs) 
  • Research and Write a beautiful and informative Philosophy Department Newsletter about what the professors and students and alumni and the department as a whole are doing. (14 hrs)
  • Research recruiting high school students from Catholic and Classical high schools and home school organizations, in coordination with Admissions and Honors (10 hrs)
  • Research starting a Philosophy Honors Society at the college (10 hrs) 
  • Research recent scholarship on medieval social epistemology (10 hrs)
  • Research outside funding options for the Philosophy Department (5 hrs)
